An evening of placenames, music & song from the middle and lower reaches of the River Findhorn, sharing cultural findings.
An evening of placenames, music and song from the middle and lower reaches of the River Findhorn – from Ardclach to Auldearn, Dulsie to Drynachan, the Streens to Forres.
Following a residency exploring the human ecology of the River Findhorn, these gatherings in Edinkillie and Fornighty offer an opportunity to share some of the cultural findings connected to the watershed. We’ll explore Gaelic placenames as carriers of ecological and cultural memory, and — with the help of esteemed Highland fiddler Lauren MacColl — bring to life traditional fiddle and pipe music alongside local voices from the archives.
Hosted by Findhorn Watershed Initiative Human Ecology Researchers-in-Residence Raghnaid Sandilands and Mairi McFadyen, the hope behind this work is to highlight the potential role of culture and creativity in forging new connections of care and stewardship, nurturing and restoring connection to our extraordinary home river.
This event will also bring downstream findings from the first phase of the research residency in the upper catchment; connecting our moorland and wooded river gorge landscapes through the river’s flow.
A local vegetarian dinner is included as part of the evening, catered by Lethan Croft Kitchen. Tickets for this event are by donation – the Findhorn, Nairn & Lossie Rivers Trust is a small charity and we need your support to continue to be able to offer similar events in future, so please consider this and the fact that dinner is included when booking your ticket(s).
This event is hosted by the Findhorn, Nairn & Lossie Rivers Trust as part of the Findhorn Watershed Initiative.
The Findhorn Watershed Initiative is a multi-generational vision to restore a mosaic of nature rich habitats, grow a local culture of nature connection and enable a thriving nature-positive economy for the people and places of the River Findhorn’s watershed area, from the Monadhliath Mountains to the Moray Firth.
